Description: Montage Project
- Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I searched unsplash.com for an image with a good amount of negative space so I’d have plenty of room for the other images. I was also looking for an image with imagery that could be used as a metaphor, somehow. Once I had the background chosen, I searched for a quote containing the word “lighthouse” and “LDS”. Then I found two other images that would also fit with the quote. I used Photoshop for 100% of the editing and blended the images with masking layers.
- Message: Just like following a lighthouse through a storm, following the Savior will help you through any problem you might experience.
- Audience: Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I suppose the audience could be anyone, but especially those who would recognize an image of Jesus Christ.
- Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied: I duplicated the scripture layer and added a blur to it. Then I adjusted the mask layer to shoe much less of it over the top of it’s original layer.
- Color scheme and color names: I used white text. The rest of the project is images.
- Top Thing Learned: I learned about free stock photo websites.

Alex nice work on your montage! I really like your use of the scriptures in the background and how well you’ve blended and mixed your pictures. I also really like the quote you used. I think that you may have a bit of a competition for your focal point in this design between Christ and the lighthouse but I think that your message is clear and it still has a pretty good flow. Nice work! Feel free to check out my project as well https://codyoakesblog.wordpress.com/
Good job!! I was able to appreciate the precision of your montage. I’m talking about the hand over the beacon, because it doesn’t look like a montage. Since you didn’t provided the original images, I couldn’t tell which ones were added, due to your well detailed design. Seem like you used three images, but I’m not 100% to be honest.
Alex, your montage is incredible. President Monson’s quote is balanced nicely with the scriptures that are blended in on the top. The blending is very smooth with the scriptures. I also saw The Lord as a triangle shape that points upward as a result of his outstretched hand. It creates nice direction and parallels the lighthouse.

I thought Riley had a great assignment too.

Alex – Great job on this Montage. I love how Christ stands out the most, but my eyes are drawn to the other parts of your work. The whole of your piece is very eye-catching and beautiful. It almost looks as if there is a wave effect through the background scripture photo. The way the center is placed behind the lighthouse is really neat. I love the quote and the colors all work with each other. Nice job!
